The charm of Cha Seung-won (차승원) shone brightly in the finale of tvN’s 'Three Meals a Day Light' (삼시세끼 Light), blending culinary skills, style, and warmth to leave a lasting impression.
On November 22, Cha Seung-won wrapped up the latest season alongside his longtime friend Yoo Hae-jin (유해진). Together, they hosted a morning cooking show concept, reminiscing about their journey while sharing untold stories. Cha showcased his culinary prowess by preparing his signature gochujang stew, squid sashimi, and spicy pork stir-fry, providing viewers with useful cooking tips.
As he reflected on the series, Cha fondly recalled moments such as fishing on Chuja Island, climbing Nogodan Peak in Jirisan, and enjoying the rural, coastal, and mountain settings of 'Three Meals a Day.'
Having participated in five seasons over the past decade, Cha Seung-won has consistently brought fresh layers of charm to the show. In this season, he combined his culinary expertise with humor and heartfelt moments, delivering both entertainment and healing to the audience.
Cha Seung-won’s culinary skills were on full display. From the moment he arrived at each “Three Meals House,” he prioritized preparing kimchi in various forms, including radish, mustard leaf, and fresh cabbage, to kick off the kitchen preparations.
His menu ranged from traditional Korean dishes like gochujang stew, stir-fried pork, soybean stew, and oxtail soup to global dishes like sweet and sour chicken, black bean noodles, French toast, steak, and fish and chips. Without needing recipes, his intuitive and lively cooking style captivated viewers.
This season, Cha shed his previous reputation as a "small portions chef," earning the title of "large portions chef" with generous servings that left audiences more than satisfied.
Cha’s fashion choices in 'Three Meals a Day Light' were another source of excitement. From extravagant “farmwear” while harvesting potatoes, sleeveless tops paired with scarves for water activities, bold leopard-print shirts for fishing, to his signature “chef look,” Cha turned the show into a personal style showcase.
Rejecting hats to preserve his hairstyle and confidently brushing off Yoo Hae-jin’s playful comments with, “What do you know about fashion?” Cha’s undeniable confidence added comedic moments that endeared him to fans.
Cha’s warm and caring nature added depth to the series. He welcomed guests to the “Three Meals House” with lighthearted humor to ease their discomfort, personally asking their food preferences and cooking tailored meals. His affectionate nickname for Yoo Hae-jin, “darling,” and thoughtful gestures toward the production crew left a deep impression.
One touching moment came when Cha handed guest Kim Nam-gil (김남길) a handwritten goodbye note saying, “It was great to do this together.” To Uhm Tae-goo (엄태구), who opened up about self-doubt while participating in variety shows, Cha offered reassurance: “That’s what makes you great. Don’t change.” His sincere encouragement left both the guest and viewers moved.
As 'Three Meals a Day Light' concluded, Cha shared his heartfelt thoughts: “This season was special because Yoo Hae-jin and I explored multiple locations, creating wonderful memories together. It’s hard to believe the 'Three Meals a Day' series has reached its 10th anniversary. I hope it continues for many more years. Next time, maybe we can return as a full team.”
Through 'Three Meals a Day,' Cha Seung-won has spent a decade celebrating the connection between people, nature, and the joy of cooking. His culinary creations were more than meals—they were heartfelt works of art. Fans eagerly await the next chapter in Cha’s journey, where his warmth and charm will undoubtedly shine once more.
